Biography

Kanou was born in En. His mother died shortly after giving birth to him and Kanou was left to fend for himself for most of his childhood. By the time Kanou reached early adulthood, he joined the Royal Imperial Army, eventually rose to the rank of royal guard, and became the emperor's personal guardian and assassin. Kanou was uncontrollable, full of anger and relentless; his friends feared him and his enemies were utterly destroyed. Eventually the emperor give him a mission to assassinate the leaders of a new nation, Estpolis. Kanou assassinated all the leaders except Ayase who was supposedly the inheritor to the throne. But in the end he failed because he was unable to harm the girl and instead, he give up his life in En in order to protect her. Kanou and Ayase wandered for 6 years before she decided to take up the throne to the Estpolis.

During their time together, Ayase was able to take down the walls that surrounded him and brung him out into the open. She suggested he read instead of giving in to his anger which eventually led to his interest in nanotechnologies. While Kanou served as a high-ranking general of Estpolis, he spent time assisting the translation of ancient text found in the ruins of the Abyss of Bhaal. He was able to make great technological advancements. But these discoveries were always made in the name of Ayase, not in the name of science. By this time, Kanou was completely in love with Ayase.

Some years later, Dhaos, who was a childhood friend of Ayase returns to Estpolis and the three of them became good friends. With Dhaos' return, it started to draw Ayase's attention and created a love triangle. Kanou loved Ayase, but he knew that she did not return his feelings - she loved Dhaos. Dhaos, of course, did not realize any of this. Kanou stepped aside so Ayase could be free to love the one she desired, but Dhaos refused to notice, and that angered Kanou to no end.

Estpolis desired independence from En. Fearing the increasing power of the masses assembling in Estpolis, En instigated war with Estpolis. The war was a one-sided battle, thwarted by the awesome numbers of the En army, and with their path of retreat cut off, the Estpolis army ran out of options and was destroyed. Caught up in the middle of all this was Dhaos and Kanou. Surrounded on all sides, they were prepared to die. And then, the Estpolis flagship appeared with Ayase on board. She sacrified herself so as to create a path for their retreat. Ayase's ship headed straight for the enemy's main ship on a suicide attack.

Thanks to Ayase's sacrifice, they were able to survive. However, her death forever changed the fate of the two men... Kanou, who followed closely under her as the leader of the Estpolis sect's militia, completely lost faith after calling out to a god that would not respond. Kanou figured that since god would not let Ayase live, god never existed in the first place. "I will create god with my own hands!" were the last words Kanou uttered before he dissappeared. And Dhaos, the death of Ayase forced him to face his feelings towards her. He resented himself for not having the power to do anything as she died in front of him, and thus, he began to search for the 'Legendary Power'.
